Microsoft Kills Off OneCare

To tell you the truth, I didn’t even realise that Microsoft had been trying to build up an antivirus business, but it will now be ceasing sales of its Windows Live OneCare antivirus package at the end of June 2009.

Microsoft initially wanted to ensure that more of its customers were protected by selling them their own-brand antivirus software, but will now be offering them a free program, code-named Morro.

Morro will not be included in Windows installs, but will have to be downloaded from Microsoft. Current OneCare users will be supported until the end of their subscriptions. Wait? It’s a subscription-type thing? Tsk! This is why I prefer freeware.
