I know it’s only Wednesday, but nothing is going to top this! Version 5.1.1 of Notepad++ has been released.
Notepad++ is a source code editor that supports a range of programming languages, from all the normal programming languages you’d expect to weird things I never use, like Caml and TeX.
The UI is very simple and easy to use, with a tabbed system that allows you to have more than one project open at any one time. There is also the option to have your code verified online, saving time on debugging and checking. In addition, you can preview webpages as you work on them to see how they look.
I’ve been using Notepad++ for two years now, and I like to think that having to code by hand has made me a better programmer. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a place for other code editors and Notepad++ won’t be for everyone, but it’s nice to be able to break something down to its bare bones and fiddle with its innards.
So if you’re looking for a new source code editor, download Notepad++ today! It’s completely free and will take up less than 10MB on your hard drive.
